Information That We Collect—The information that we collect falls under three main categories: personally identifiable information, log files, and cookies (collectively, the “Information”):
During member registration and payment, a user is required to provide the following information:
- Address (including street, city, state, and country)
- Email address
- Phone number
- Personal information you give us that we did not request (such as personal information you voluntarily put into an email to us, for example if you apply to a position advertised on our Site, or that you may disclose as a comment to one of our blog posts).
We reserve the right to ask for your date of birth to verify your age. Please note that we will not knowingly collect the personal information of any individual who tells us that he or she is under the age of 18. If we determine that an individual under the age of 18 has submitted personally identifiable information to this Site, we will delete that information.
Log Files—We or our platform service provider, Squarespace, may periodically gather certain information automatically and store it for approximately two weeks in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp and clickstream data. Log files are deleted automatically every two weeks.
Cookies—Cookies are small files of information that are stored on your computer. Websites that you visit ask your computer to store this information and retrieve the information from your computer so that they can keep track of things like other websites you visit or how you navigate our Site or other files that direct you to the Site. On revisiting our website or in using the files, our computer server will recognize the cookie and give us information about your use of the Site. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but usually you can alter the settings of your browser to prevent automatic acceptance. If you choose not to receive cookies, you may still use the Site but you may find that the Site does not function properly or is slower than when you allow a cookie to be installed on your machine.
Limiting Collection of Personal Information: We limit the collection of personal information to that which is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified in this Privacy Statement and we collect, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.
Access to Personally Identifiable Information—We, and only we, have access to and collect information that you provide through any direct contact with us, or that you voluntarily provide when you register with the Site. We do not receive payment processing information, as payment processing is handled by our vendors Stripe and/or PayPal. Your use of third party payment processing services in connection with your member registration is subject to the Privacy Statement of such third party website. We do not share personally identifiable information with any third party outside of the Company, other than with entities that are involved in helping us to run our Site, or as necessary to fulfill your request for our content (i.e., payment processing services).
The entity that help us run our site is currently Squarespace, which provides hosting and design services to us, and Stripe and PayPal, which currently provide or have provided credit card payment processing services to us. To purchase any content from our Site, you will have to comply with the terms of our payment partners and will need to review and agree to their privacy statements. We will share information with Stripe and/or PayPal only to the extent necessary for the purposes of confirming payments you make for materials from our Site and to enable us to retrieve payments from Stripe and/or PayPal. Squarespace provides the technology on which our Site runs and holds and maintains the databases in which data about our users is contained. Squarespace will only use data you provide to the extent necessary to enable us to operate the Site.
We may also use and disclose your personal information to third parties under the following limited circumstances:
- To service providers that help with our operations and Site, including, without limitation, for customer services, monitoring and analyzing Site activity, and operating and maintaining the Site. Such service providers and partner companies may only use your personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Statement;
- When necessary to protect our safety, property or other rights, our representatives, customers and users of the Site, including to detect and prevent fraud;
- With your consent.
What We Do With the Information—We use personally identifiable information to process orders you make from our Site. In order to process your payment for the content and to reconcile our accounts, any online payment processing partner that we may use from time to time may provide us with information detailing the credits and/or debits made to your credit/debit card.
With your prior consent, we may also contact you from time to time with updates about the Site or to let you know about our services by sending you newsletters and news on events that you may be interested in. By signing in to our newsletters you give us your consent to receive newsletters from us. You can revoke your consent to receive such marketing material at any time by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We do not sell or rent personally identifiable information to anyone or use it in any other capacity.
Information that we may collect from log files gives us a general picture of who is visiting our Site and which pages are being viewed. This information is not specific to an individual viewer and may be collected only to assist us in the maintenance and administration of our Site. The purpose of collecting log files is to research what pages are of most interest and use to our visitors and members. Log file information is not linked to personally identifiable information.
We reserve the right to access and disclose Information, including personally identifiable information, (i) to comply with applicable laws and government requests, (ii) to be able to operate our systems properly or (iii) to protect ourselves or our users.
Contacting Us to Correct Information—You may access, correct or update the registration information you have provided to us at any time by logging into your member account. Additionally, you can do the following at any time by contacting us through the Site, emailing email@example.com:
- See what data we have about you, if any;
- Change/correct any data we have about you;
- Have us delete certain data we have about you; or
- Express any concern you have about our use of your data or any Information.
We will respond to any access requests within the time periods provided for under applicable laws. We will need to verify your identity before providing you with the personal information we hold about you. There is no cost for such access request unless you require copies of records. We may not be able to provide you with access to your personal information if the information cannot be separated from the personal information of others, cannot be disclosed for reasons of security or commercial confidentiality, or is protected by legal privilege. If we cannot provide you with access to your personal information, we will advise you of the reasons access is being denied, unless we are prohibited by law from doing so.
How We Safeguard the Information—Keeping your information secure is important to us, and we make sure that all the information that we collect is as safe as possible. We or our service providers use commercially reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures to protect personally identifiable information under our control, including securing the infrastructure that supports information collection, exchange and storage/retrieval.
Perimeter Security—We use firewalls to secure the perimeter of our information network and monitor our systems on a regular basis.
Data Security—An authentication and authorization mechanism based on usernames and passwords is used to restrict access to information on this Site. Each authenticated user only has access to the information that he or she is authorized to use.
Transaction Security—All personal information exchanged between our servers and your web browser is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Do Not Track Requests—Please note that we do not honor Do Not Track requests or signals from your web browser regarding any collection of Information, including any personally identifiable information, about you and your online activities over time. Any of the entities that are involved in helping us run our Site that may also collect personally identifiable information about you and your online activities may also disregard your Do Not Track requests.

Cross-Border Data Transfers As Silhouette School Inc. based in the United States, we transfer and store your information in the United States. As such, we wish to make you aware that your personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in the United States. In addition, we may also engage third parties to perform certain services on our behalf. These third parties may store, process and transfer personal information on servers located outside of Canada in jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those of Canada. As a result, personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in those jurisdictions according to the laws in those jurisdictions. For example, information may be shared in response to valid demands or requests from government authorities, courts and law enforcement officials in those countries. Subject to applicable laws in such other jurisdictions, we will use reasonable efforts to ensure that appropriate protections are in place to require our third parties to maintain protections on personal information that are equivalent to those that apply in Canada.
