In general, we use the personal information that we collect from you to allow you to use the services offered by our website, including content that is available to members who have purchased a subscription. Information That We Collect—The information that we collect falls under three main categories: personally identifiable information, log files, and cookies (collectively, the “Information”):

Personally Identifiable InformationAlthough certain areas of this Site are made available to all visitors, before you can access or use the content, you must read this Privacy Statement and register with the Site for a subscription in accordance with our Terms of Use. Should you not register your details and create a member account, you will not be able to access or use the content. During member registration and payment, a user is required to provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Address (including street, city, state, and country)
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Age
  • Personal information you give us that we did not request (such as personal information you voluntarily put into an email to us, for example if you apply to a position advertised on our Site, or that you may disclose as a comment to one of our blog posts).

We reserve the right to ask for your date of birth to verify your age. Please note that we will not knowingly collect the personal information of any individual who tells us that he or she is under the age of 18. If we determine that an individual under the age of 18 has submitted personally identifiable information to this Site, we will delete that information.

Log FilesWe or our platform service provider, Squarespace, may periodically gather certain information automatically and store it for approximately two weeks in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp and clickstream data. Log files are deleted automatically every two weeks.

CookiesCookies are small files of information that are stored on your computer. Websites that you visit ask your computer to store this information and retrieve the information from your computer so that they can keep track of things like other websites you visit or how you navigate our Site or other files that direct you to the Site. On revisiting our website or in using the files, our computer server will recognize the cookie and give us information about your use of the Site. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but usually you can alter the settings of your browser to prevent automatic acceptance. Limiting Collection of Personal Information: We limit the collection of personal information to that which is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified in this Privacy Statement and we collect, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Statement. 

Access to Personally Identifiable Information—We, and only we, have access to and collect information that you provide through any direct contact with us, or that you voluntarily provide when you register with the Site. We do not receive payment processing information, as payment processing is handled by our vendors Stripe and/or PayPal. Your use of third party payment processing services in connection with your member registration is subject to the Privacy Statement of such third party website. We do not share personally identifiable information with any third party outside of the Company, other than with entities that are involved in helping us to run our Site, or as necessary to fulfill your request for our content (i.e., payment processing services). 

The entity that help us run our site is currently Squarespace, which provides hosting and design services to us, and Stripe and PayPal, which currently provide or have provided credit card payment processing services to us. To purchase any content from our Site, you will have to comply with the terms of our payment partners and will need to review and agree to their privacy statements. We will share information with Stripe and/or PayPal only to the extent necessary for the purposes of confirming payments you make for materials from our Site and to enable us to retrieve payments from Stripe and/or PayPal. Squarespace provides the technology on which our Site runs and holds and maintains the databases in which data about our users is contained. Squarespace will only use data you provide to the extent necessary to enable us to operate the Site. 

We may also use and disclose your personal information to third parties under the following limited circumstances: 

  • To service providers that help with our operations and Site, including, without limitation, for customer services, monitoring and analyzing Site activity, and operating and maintaining the Site.  Such service providers and partner companies may only use your personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Statement;
  • When necessary to protect our safety, property or other rights, our representatives, customers and users of the Site, including to detect and prevent fraud; 
  • If we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets to a related company or a third party. Your personal information will remain subject to any pre-existing Privacy Statement unless you agree to the privacy policy of the company or third party that acquires your personal information; or
  • With your consent.

Disclosure and Retention of Personal Information—From time to time, we may wish to use personal information for new or additional purposes, in which case we will amend the Privacy Statement to include these new or additional purposes and will obtain your consent through your continued use of our Site. We retain your personal information only for as long as we need it to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, to ensure your compliance with our Terms of Use, and to comply with our legal obligations.

What We Do With the Information—We use personally identifiable information to process orders you make from our Site. In order to process your payment for the content and to reconcile our accounts, any online payment processing partner that we may use from time to time may provide us with information detailing the credits and/or debits made to your credit/debit card. 

With your prior consent, we may also contact you from time to time with updates about the Site or to let you know about our services by sending you newsletters and news on events that you may be interested in. By signing in to our newsletters you give us your consent to receive newsletters from us. You can revoke your consent to receive such marketing material at any time by emailing We do not sell or rent personally identifiable information to anyone or use it in any other capacity. 

Information that we may collect from log files gives us a general picture of who is visiting our Site and which pages are being viewed. This information is not specific to an individual viewer and may be collected only to assist us in the maintenance and administration of our Site. The purpose of collecting log files is to research what pages are of most interest and use to our visitors and members. Log file information is not linked to personally identifiable information. 

The data that is collected through the use of cookies assists Squarespace’s ability to verify user accounts and track user activity in the Site. Squarespace additionally allows the use of third party cookies to assist with analyzing the performance of the Site. Any third party cookie usage is governed by the privacy policy or privacy statement of such third party. We use the following third party services:

Squarespace Analytics—We use “Squarespace Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Squarespace Analytics collects information about your activity on and interaction with the this site, such as your IP address, your device or browser type, the webpage you visited before coming to our sites and identifiers associated with your devices. This information enables us to analyze how the this site are being accessed and used, and to track performance of the the site. We use the information we get from Squarespace Analytics only to improve this site. Squarespace Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Squarespace Analytics with personally identifiable information. Squarespace Analytics uses cookies and other technologies to do things such as remember your preferences, keep you safe and improve and promote the services provided to this site by Squarespace. You can prevent Squarespace Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.

Google Analytics—We use “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. We reserve the right to access and disclose Information, including personally identifiable information, (i) to comply with applicable laws and government requests, (ii) to be able to operate our systems properly or (iii) to protect ourselves or our users.

Contacting Us to Correct Information—You may access, correct or update the registration information you have provided to us at any time by logging into your member account. Additionally, you can do the following at any time by contacting us through the Site, emailing

  • Change/correct any data we have about you;
  • Have us delete certain data we have about you; or
  • Express any concern you have about our use of your data or any Information.

We will respond to any access requests within the time periods provided for under applicable laws. We will need to verify your identity before providing you with the personal information we hold about you. There is no cost for such access request unless you require copies of records. We may not be able to provide you with access to your personal information if the information cannot be separated from the personal information of others, cannot be disclosed for reasons of security or commercial confidentiality, or is protected by legal privilege. If we cannot provide you with access to your personal information, we will advise you of the reasons access is being denied, unless we are prohibited by law from doing so.

How We Safeguard the Information—Keeping your information secure is important to us, and we make sure that all the information that we collect is as safe as possible. We or our service providers use commercially reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures to protect personally identifiable information under our control, including securing the infrastructure that supports information collection, exchange and storage/retrieval. 

Perimeter SecurityWe use firewalls to secure the perimeter of our information network and monitor our systems on a regular basis.

Data SecurityAn authentication and authorization mechanism based on usernames and passwords is used to restrict access to information on this Site. Each authenticated user only has access to the information that he or she is authorized to use.

Transaction SecurityAll personal information exchanged between our servers and your web browser is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect the Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Cross-Border Data Transfers As Silhouette School Inc. based in the United States, we transfer and store your information in the United States. As such, we wish to make you aware that your personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in the United States. In addition, we may also engage third parties to perform certain services on our behalf. These third parties may store, process and transfer personal information on servers located outside of Canada in jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those of Canada. As a result, personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in those jurisdictions according to the laws in those jurisdictions.  For example, information may be shared in response to valid demands or requests from government authorities, courts and law enforcement officials in those countries. Subject to applicable laws in such other jurisdictions, we will use reasonable efforts to ensure that appropriate protections are in place to require our third parties to maintain protections on personal information that are equivalent to those that apply in Canada.
